Today on the podcast is World Silver Medalist Callum Elson!
A Cambridge and Coleridge athlete, Elson ran as a youngster and finished 16th in the English Schools Cross Country Champs in 2017, but while at the University of Durham concentrated on playing football and only began running seriously again during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
In 2022, he left American International College in Boston, Massachusetts and returned to the UK. He represented Britain for the first time at the European Cross Country Championships in Turin, Italy in December 2022.
In February 2023, he was selected to compete for Great Britain at the 2023 World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, New South Wales.
Elson ran a new area record time of 3:56.41 to win the silver medal in the road mile at the 2023 World Athletics Road Running Championships in Riga.
Most insane of all, Callum has only been running for three years seriously. The sky is seriously the limit for this guy.
In today's episode, Callum and I discuss his upbringing in the sport, training/living the UK, his year in the NCAA system, the biggest lessons he's learned from the sport, the World Mile Championships, his future ambitions, and so much more!

In the 2020 pandemic Callum Elson put an end to his university football season and started to take his hobby of running more seriously. In 2021 Callum ran fast enough to secure a scholarship in the NCAA, for a one year program. In 2022, Callum ran his 3rd ever mile race and broke the 4 minute barrier and then the 14 minute barrier for the 5k a few months later. Now back in the UK, he wants to cement himself at the top of the national scene & set sights on international vests. Since filming the first episode of this series, Callum qualified to represent Great Britain at the European XC championships in Turin. -- -- -- [Athlete] Instagram: @thedistanceproject Sweat Elite Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sweatelite/ Charlie McCarthy (Sweat Elite Videographer) Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/charlie_mccarthyyy/ -- -- -- Members support our video production and it only costs as much as a Big Mac each month.
