Jez & Damo round out the year by chatting to up & coming Castle Hill local 800m speedster, National Champ, 2 x World U20 Championships Silver medallist, European Diamond League competitor & US University of Washington Athlete Carley Thomas. Learn the tips & tricks she learnt at the elite Diamond League, how she recovered from a horrific leg injury involving a speed boat, rubber ring & some concrete water, recovering almost miraculously to take her first jog 4 months in & racing 9 months later! Learn how her team of sports professionals & several leading edge technologies came together to get her up & running again. A lovely Aussie youngster with bags of talent & a heartwarming recovery story.
Today on the podcast is Australian legend Carley Thomas!
If you're not familiar with Carley, she is a standout middle-distance runner hailing from Sydney, Australia, who has established herself as a formidable force in collegiate track and field. With a remarkable list of achievements, including being the 2023 Pac-12 800m Runner-Up and a record-holder in the NCAA Distance Medley Relay, Thomas has consistently showcased her prowess on the track. Notably, she secured the 2022 Pac-12 800m Championship and has been a multi-time All-America Second Team honoree for events such as the 800m and Distance Medley Relay. Thomas overcame a challenging setback in 2020, rebounding from a leg fracture to earn the National Women's Freshman of the Year title.
Her success extends beyond the track, as she has been recognized for her academic achievements, earning a spot on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team multiple times and consistently making the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll. Thomas's impressive journey reflects not only her athletic prowess but also her resilience and commitment to both academic and athletic excellence.
In today's episode, we discuss her upbringing in sports, how she came back from an extreme injury, her NIL deal with ON, her ambitions in sports, Australia vs. US, and so much more!
I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation and got a lot from it! It'll be perfect for your runs this week.
