The last time Robert Brandt was on the podcast, we were announcing his retirement from the sport.
This time, we're announcing his comeback.
For those who aren't familiar with him, Robert was one of the top runners in the NCAA during his time at Cal Berkeley, UCLA, and then Georgetown, having six first-team All-American performances. He's run 3:55 in the Mile, 13:19 in the 5k (19th All-Time in the NCAA) & 27:39 in the 10k (19th All-Time in the NCAA). He was an Olympic Trials Finalist 5k and 10k
and holds the schools record at Georgetown in the 5k and 10k
Robert will be making his return to the sport on December 10 at The California International Marathon, where he will be aiming to qualify for the Olympic Trials in Orlando, Florida.
In today's episode, Robert goes through his decision to come back to the sport in some capacity, his new outlook on the sport, recent training, starting beef, what the future might hold for him, and so much more.
Anytime Rob comes on the podcast, it is bound to be a banger episode, and today is no exception. There are lots of good stories and wisdom in today's episode that you will not want to miss out on.

“To put it succinctly, I’m ready to hang up the spikes and dive into those other passions. I’m just excited to dive into my career and build a life beyond running.”
A personal note: Robert has been one of my favorite runners since I first got into running. His grit and determination are on full display when he trains and races. His no-BS attitude, but yet kind heart has always been attractive to me. From the minute I first talked to Robert I was immediately impressed by his sincerity, kindness, and openness. I very rarely scream at the TV, but in the 2021 NCAA 10k championships, I found myself doing exactly that with 100m to go. Why was I displaying emotion at an event I had no control over? Because I know Robert and how hard he works and how badly he wants to win at whatever he does in life. Similarly, when I first found out that Robert was taking a step back from the sport of running, I shed a tear or two. While I’ll be sad to see his absence from the sport I cherish, I know he will take his passion, determination, and grit that he learned from running and apply to this next stage of his life. As the saying goes, “When you close a door another one opens”.
So thank you, Robert. Thank you for all you’ve done to push our sport forward. Thank you for being unabashedly yourself. Thank you for the countless kids you’ve inspired to take up this sport. Thank you for leaving the sport better than you’ve found it.

Hey Everyone! So unfortunately that headache I had last week turned out to be a lot more than just a migraine. I ended up getting that one thing that you're not supposed to talk about on youtube *wink wink* I haven't been able to run and my quarantine just ended today. In any case, my friend Robert Brandt just got signed to Under Armour so I got some clips and make a little 30 second edit. Enjoy! I started youtube about a year ago and now I'm here trying to improve as a runner, a human being, and a videographer/editor each and every day. Follow along on my journey if you like! In episode thirty-two of The Running Effect (with Dominic Schlueter), I catch up with Robert on all he’s been up to since we last talked in December, this current 2021 track season, and most importantly, take a deep-dive into the most upcoming NCAAs. We go through how he's feeling both physically and mentally and explore many subjects around Nationals! We also go through what he'd make for Gordon Ramsay for dinner.

I sit down with local Colorado trail runner, Robert Brandt, to discuss his trail running stories, and life after collapsing at the finish line from an unexpected heart condition.

Today's video is what an easy day looks like for me currently. 10 miles at about 7:17 pace. We had a solid group out for the run including Robert Brandt, who is fresh off of running on Olympic qualifying time in the 10k at 27:39 and also Jeff Thies, a member of Tinman Elite. Enjoy! I want this channel to be a place of inspiration and storytelling for everyone to listen to, whether it be about running or anything else! I am very new to this vlogging/editing videos thing, so I'm still trying to get better with all the little stuff, but please feel free to leave some constructive criticism in the comments or let me know what video you want to see next! https://www.strava.com/athletes/33988409 Be good humans Do good things Search for Happiness #easyrun #running #10milerun
