Jonny Mellor joins Rich Morrell on the Trackstaa Podcast after earning selection for Great Britain at the European Championships marathon in Birmingham.
From his early days balancing football, swimming and athletics, to becoming one of Britain's most consistent distance runners, Jonny reflects on a career spanning track, cross country and the roads. He discusses the transition to the marathon, the setbacks that threatened his career, and why, at 39 years old, he's still running personal bests.
The pair also dive into marathon training, race strategy, double threshold sessions, racing through a marathon block and what it means to wear the GB vest on home soil once again.
Ahead of the European Championships, Jonny will also be racing at the inaugural Vitality Stockport 10K as part of the Top Flight Race Series, where some of the UK's fastest athletes will battle it out on one of the country's quickest new 10K courses.
