I’ve run in the MetaSpeed Ray a couple times now, but now I’ve got my hands on a final production version. This shoe uses an incredibly soft yet very responsive aTPU foam that just feels too good to be true. There is a bit of a carbon plate (forefoot shank may be the more accurate term for it) to try and stabilize things. But it’s a very squishy shoe. It’s a very fast shoe. ASICS says that they’ve had testers run in the shoe for a couple hundred miles, but if you told me that this was one of those 50 or 100 mile shoes, I wouldn’t be surprised because of how delicate the foam feels. . For this run, I took the shoe for threshold repeats (6x6’), and the effort felt fast and controlled. When I was testing this shoe earlier in the year, I ran faster efforts and was worried that the shoe might not be as good for longer distance running. But the MetaSpeed Ray was excellent for threshold work. The final test will have to be some long runs at marathon effort, but that will have to wait until after Sydney. . Disclosures: ASICS provided these shoes I do not have to pay for them. No one is paying me to make this video or Toni course their brand in this video. No one previewed it before it published.
