ASICS Novablast 5

13 miles out of the box with the new Novablast 5. This year, this shoe gets a foam update to FF Blast Max. We’ve previously seen a bit of this foam in the Glideride Max which showed us a great amount a comfort without excessive squish, and I’m getting a lot of similar sensations here. Really agreeable ride. Nice sense of cushion and spring, but it’s not unstable. Putting it side by side with the last version, it certainly looks like there’s more foam in version 5. But this new foam is lighter, making the seemingly bigger shoe a bit lighter. Since taking it on a first run, I’ve run a 7 mile easy day after a hard workout yesterday, and I really enjoyed the shoe. It feels like it can run forever. I’d like to get some more strides in them to get a better feel for how this shoe feels at some faster paces, but I’ve enjoyed it for some slightly fast bursts of speed so far.
