First run in the MetaSpeed Edge Tokyo. ASICS changes the amount of FF Leap the MetaSpeed gets depending on whether it’s the Edge or Sky - whether it’s for a heel striker or a forefoot striker. For the Edge, first impact is intended to be midfoot or heel, so more of the relatively stiffer FF Turbo + is placed in the back. And as the foot rolls to toe off, you compress and push off the softer yet more dynamic FF Leap, with the sharp angle of the carbon fiber plate acting to stabilize the heel toe transition. And for heel strikers, I think this is going to be a very exciting combo. For me, the plate position continues to make this shoe a bit harsh under the arch. The shoe favors a quick turnover rather than a big bounding stride. After now having two versions of MetaSpeed where the Sky and Edge have the same rocker position and toe spring, I’d love to see what would happen if the rocker started earlier in the Edge to further push it towards a Deviate Elite 3 or VF3 type stance. . Disclosures: ASICS provides this shoe for the purpose of review, and I attended the media launch event for this shoe in Tokyo, hosted by ASICS.
