Took the Vaporfly 4 for a Runna workout this week, On and Off K’s. I’m getting ready for a 5k next month, and today’s session was 5x (1k 7:25/mi, 1k 6:25/mi). So it’s a total of 10k of work without any real rest. The Off K’s aren’t that demanding on paper (you can see that my HR didn’t really go up all that much on the first one), but when the Off K’s come after the On K’s, I find that I have to kind of push through the “recovery.” The Vaporfly felt great for this threshold-y session. I think I might need to hop back in the VF3 again to confirm, but I feel like Nike is making another big shift with this franchise. The VF3 felt like a return to Vaporfly 4%. But the VF4 kind of reminds me more of the Vaporfly Next. The Zoom X feels excellent in this shoe, and the updated design feels like there’s more than just an aesthetic similarity to the AF3. It now kind of feels like you can have a Nike Supershoe with or without Air Zoom and that’s pretty much the only difference. Although, there is still quite a difference in plate position, so I think that heel strikers will still prefer the VF over the AF, but the delta between these two shoes is smaller than ever. - Disclsoure: Runna is the sponsor of this video.
